James. 21. Tulsa. Man. Yes.

Also a lunch lady.

(Formerly jamesthebringerofdeath.)

Oh man.

My last post was six seven months ago. Hah.

I remember when this site was my cocaine. I’d sit around in this little old house and enter that repost-with-a-snarky-comment pattern. Also, Obama. Lots and lots of Obama.

So an update would be the decent thing to do, right? Right.

The thumbnail to the left was taken almost three years ago, with the camera of a t629. I had just moved to Tulsa, back in with my parents, and was essentially starting my life over. Here’s what those three years looked like:

2009:

  • Got a job at Quiznos #1, the only place that would hire me (I had a year-and-a-half of experience). Worked nights, and couldn’t afford much of anything. A couple of my old coworkers are now in prison for the next decade. Kids, don’t do drugs. One of them was gorgeous, but now she kinda looks like a shovel. An ugly shovel.
  • Worked my way into another Quiznos, closer to my house, and with slightly better pay. Still could only reach 30 hours a week, if I was lucky.
  • Helped organize a trip to Cornerstone that summer.
  • Spent much of the year getting over my first big break-up. Met some interesting people, but not too many. In those days, I still wasn’t terribly brave.
  • Learned how to knit. Well, sort of

2010:

  • Started the year desperate for change. Actually told my parents that I wanted to join the military, after getting in better shape. Never did.
  • Hired on by a local hospital cafeteria. This changed everything. I suddenly had a good wage, benefits, guaranteed full-time hours, and all kinds of perks. I learned how to talk to people, and made lots of great friends.
  • My dating life just started. OkCupid actually had some fantastic women, and though none of it lasted long-term, it taught me so much (like how to not be creepy).

2011 (and actually my update to where-the-heck-I’ve-been)

  • The year started out with a crazy snowstorm, which pretty much immobilized the city of Tulsa. I was called in to work that week, which ended up being an 84-hour one. Made about two grand in bonuses and such, and told my boss that I’d like to go to college with that money. He moved me to an evening shift, to make it a possibility. While I didn’t make it to school that time, it did get me in the right mindset.
  • Evenings brought new possibilities, and new friends. I got to know the small crew that worked evenings, and found myself hanging out with them in my free time. Huge contrast to the druggies at Quiznos.
  • One coworker, who’d been there four years, applied for a job in a medical laboratory, and got it. I tried for it, and didn’t get it.
  • Tried again, and after a very angsty wait, got it too! I now work as a medical lab assistant. That’s right, no longer a lunch lady, after nearly six years of food service.
  • It’s an evening shift, so I’m now able to work on another dream: College. I’m now at the local community college, taking my basics. Currently, the plan is to head into Electrical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, but I’m also considering the local lab technician program.

So that how it’s been, haha. Better. I’m hoping to post more, actually. I just got a nice Android phone, and can’t wait to get it down.

I’ve missed writing.

I need to do it more.
